Mason’s (@daddyo_edc) path to EDC is slightly unconventional and all the more meaningful. As a father, he quickly found himself needing more tools as he enjoys taking his kids on new adventures, and he felt the need to be more prepared for his kids’ sake. Read on for Mason’s story to his current carry and full rig rundown.

- Knife: Spyderco Slysz Bowie
The beauty of the Slysz Bowie is in the details. From its slicey mirror finish blade, contoured and polished titanium handle, subtle deep carry clip and smooth as butter action. It's absolutely my favorite knife and it's difficult to reach for anything else when I open my knife drawer in the morning.
- Flashlight: Eagletac D25C
It took me awhile to find this light but I'm sure glad I did. It's a classy design that isn't your run of the mill "tactical" flashlight. It looks nice, has a great clip and easy to use interface.
- Pry Bar: Lynch NorthWest All Access Pass
A pry bar or cap lifter is a must in my EDC and the Lynch AAP is my favorite to carry. What sets it apart from the million other pry bars is it's easy to carry design. I love the fact that it has a deep carry pocket clip because I hate having gear rolling around in the bottom of my pocket.
- Wallet: Recycled Firefighter Sergeant
This is the most minimalist wallet I have ever seen and carried and I love it for that reason. It holds a small handful of cards, has a handy elastic cash strap and you barely notice it in your pocket.
- Hank: Recycled Firefighter Probie
I just like the simplicity of this hank. Nothing fancy, just soft, quality material that you don't mind actually using.
- Sunglasses: Ray-Ban Wayfarers
Not much explanation needed here. It’s just an absolute classic.
- Keychain: Various
My keys are basically normal everyday keys but I do have a Griffin Pocket Tool Mini and a storage capsule on my keyring.
Background:
My name is Mason. I am based in Las Vegas, NV and I am a Respiratory Care Practitioner. My main hobby is, well, knives of course. I really enjoy learning about knives, taking them apart, sharpening them, buying/selling/trading - you name it. However, I also enjoy photography, woodworking, and sports.
I spend almost all my free time with my wife and kids. Taking my kids on new adventures is what brings me joy in life. We like going to the park, hiking, the beach, Disneyland, the movies, or whatever else we decide to do!
I first got into EDC a couple years ago. I started carrying a knife and a Leatherman because I just wanted to be more prepared. Once I had kids I found myself needing more stuff, more often. Having kids made me want to be prepared for whatever they needed. Then I came across this whole community of knife/gear nuts taking cool pics of their gear and posting it on Instagram and I HAD join in!
Favorite EDC Tool:
Choosing a favorite piece of gear is hard but if it came down to it, I would have to go with the Spyderco Slysz Bowie with the Lynch All Access Pass as a close second.
