Born and raised in Tulsa, Oklahoma, Forrest (@forrestfire918) is building a career as an automotive locksmith. As a young boy, Forrest has always been enamored by shurikens and all kinds of ninja gear – and from there, his love of knives and high-quality tools grew. Read on for Forrest’s full rig rundown and find out what’s next on his gear radar.
Featured Tools:
- Begleri: Aroundsquare
This is a traditional skill toy that has endless possibilities and helps with hand-eye coordination! I have been playing for several years and I love the different weights, combinations of metal, and paracord lengths. Also one of the first items I noticed my self carrying on a daily basis (besides a knife).
- Carabiner: Ti2 Design Halo
Made from bronze, this is a prototype and one of my favorite carabiners. The patina has set in perfectly. I always carry this one with my keys, GambleMade lantern, and copper/brass split Tukk.
- Keyring: Handgrey Knox
I use this titanium keyring with my Halo carabiner. It cleverly and conveniently holds everything in style.
- Utility Tool: Tukk by Tactical Keychains
I’ve been after these elusive little razor blades for quite some time. I ended up scooping both a copper and brass during the last drop. I split them so I have one brass and copper top! I really enjoy this razor for its replaceable nature. The fit and finish are awesome and the replacement blades are easily found. - Lantern: GambleMade Gas Light
The Gas Light is made from copper and brass, glows in the dark, and is completely awesome. I’m a sucker for shiny things that glow and this little doohickey checked both boxes! It glows surprisingly bright and does help me locate my keys in the dark.
- Coin: Armstrong Metal Works
I won this Solar Blueprint coin during a giveaway on Christmas. It's extra special and has been riding with me ever since. It's made from brass and has a forced patina. This lucky coin features deep rings, a sweet eye stamped on the front, and hand machined circles on the back.
- Pry: Brasswerx
I absolutely love this prybar. It has a sweet .45 casing press fit on the bottle end and I've outfitted it with a Ti2design brass Hitex bead! I find countless reasons to use this in my day to day.
- Knife: Microtech UTX-70
This Microtech is one of my favorites in my collection. I picked this bronzed Hellhound about a year ago at my local Sports World. It’s a gorgeous knife that has superb action. It’s snappy, sharp, and I’ve always had an eye for OTF knives.
- Hank: Urban EDC Supply x FoxHanx
Hands down my favorite hank right now. The added details and craftsmanship are out of this world – I love this hank! Hanks are a new thing for me but I’m finding that the applications are endless! I mainly use mine in place of paper towels to dry my hands and wipe my face.
- Pen: Urban Survival Gear TiScribe
It’s made from brass and very well built. I really love the way the bolt action is integrated with the clip. It’s very well balanced and can take various refills. I especially love the mokuti tip and clip. Both were a gift from my aunt last year and has really made this pen special.
Background:
My name is Forrest and I was born and raised in Tulsa, Oklahoma. I’m 24 years old and I love collecting knives, gear, playing Kendama, drawing, painting, playing video games, and spending time with friends and family. I’ve been an automotive locksmith for almost three years and I love it. I plan on making a career out of it.
I’ve been into EDC for quite a while but didn’t really know it had a community until I saw people posting about it on Instagram. I’ve carried a knife, pen, wallet, Kendama, and my phone for as long as I can remember. My eyes were opened further when I started getting into the world of custom and rare knives.
I started following and discovering makers several years back but couldn’t imagine having the money to collect. I’m in a better position these days and I’ve been fortunate enough to expand my collection of rad gear and knives! I’m hoping to have a collection I’ll be proud to pass down to my children one day.
I remember always being into throwing knives, ninja stars, blow darts, and any kind of ninja tools when I was a kid. I even had a crossbow at one point. I find it funny that my brother was into airsoft guns and the military growing up. I find it fitting now that we are older, I collect knives and gear and he’s starting his collection of firearms and wants to serve our country!
Favorite EDC Tool:
Listing a favorite piece has been the hardest part of this write-up. When you start a collection they all become your favorites! One piece that really stands out in my collection is my Urban Survival Gear pen with the mokuti tip kit. Because the mokuti was a gift it makes that pen extra special to me. It’s such a versatile pen that takes various refills and has great balance.
What's On Your Gear Radar:
There are a few hard to get pieces I’ve been searching for like a TC Barlow and a Northwoods Madison Barlow. I’m looking forward to the Serge Panchenko production line that will be dropping sometime in the next month or so. I've been looking forward to scooping up one of the Bean Flippers since he announced them in December. Serge is definitely one of my favorite makers.
