A rising star in the custom knife world, Maverick Custom Knives is helmed by James Robert Buckley. This stunning Maverick Customs Takefu is the original, handmade version of the soon-to-be-released Kizer production model – albeit with a different blade shape, blade steel, and pedigree.
As a self-professed steel snob, James only selects the best and most high-end tool steels to work with, as evident with the Takefu which features a Takefu SG-2 modified tanto blade. SG-2 or Super-Gold 2 is a powdered stainless steel that is well known for its excellent wear resistance and is considered one of the best steels for high-end, high-quality knives.
Adhering to time-honored traditions, James prefers the old-school method of cutting out blanks, sanding them flat, and then fitting them all together. A picture of perfection, the Maverick Customs Takefu comes complete with vintage micarta scales, a matching deep-carry titanium pocket clip, and custom hardware.
