EDC Minimalism: Is Less Really More? - URBAN EDC®

EDC Minimalism: Is Less Really More?

By Shawne DeCristofaro
July 23, 2020

Less is More When You Do More with Less

Hey Urban EDC Supply! Shawne here – and I want to have a discussion on minimalism. We have all heard the phrase “less is more,” but how true is it? Can you be fully prepared with a minimalist everyday carry? Are these things mutually exclusive? I would argue that minimalism and preparedness can only jive when the less is more meets doing more with less. So that is exactly the carry I have built for this master class in minimalism.

Rexford Utility Tool (R.U.T.) V4 - Seigaiha (Exclusive)

Taking up less than 3.5 square inches, Todd Rexford has packed 5 functions into 1 tool. Now this, is more with less. On the business end, the RUT runs a common utility blade making it the easiest knife to sharpen.

With a built-in pressure lock that is created by a piece of the backside wrapping up on the show-side making it easy to release, the Rexford Utility Tool packs a do more attitude in a sleek, streamlined, and minimal package. Aside from being a knife, it doubles as a flathead screwdriver, hex bit driver, prybar, and bottle opener.

To top things off, the tool is beautiful. Constructed of solid titanium, it weighs less than one ounce and comes complete with our Urban EDC Supply exclusive seigaiha pattern.

Red Horse Knife Works Condor Cigar Cutter - Blackwashed Carbon Fiber (Exclusive)

I see you. You are a knife collector, but cutting your favorite sticks with a plastic cutter. Stop, I beg you. Instead, opt for a cigar cutter designed by a knife maker. That’s right, the Condor Cutter is designed by Red Horse Knife Works and features a full titanium build and M390 blade.

Maintaining a slim profile necessary for minimalist everyday carry, the Condor Cutter is not just cutter. Packing a more with less punch, it doubles as a bottle opener and impact tool. Built into the back of the cutter is a bottle opener that doubles as a stop for your stogie so that you can stop cutting like an amateur. Lastly, if you are needing some force multiplication, look no further than the built-in impact tool.

Fitting in with a beautiful, stealth minimalism, this Red Horse Condor Cutter features a stunning blackwashed titanium and carbon fiber build that can only be found at Urban EDC Supply.

Simian Hantani Tweezer - Aluminum

I’m not sure about you, but I find myself needing a tweezer quite frequently. From splinters to setting the hands-on my latest watch build, to pulling a tick off my dog after our latest hike, my tweezers put in a lot of work. I would call them the unsung hero of the everyday carry

For me, the Simian Tweezer reigns supreme with its aluminum construction and square tip. At less than a quarter of an ounce, and under 3 inches in length, this set of tweezers fits in with the less is more when you can do more with less ethos. It all comes down to the square tip.

These blunt tweezers mean that you can use them safely in a variety of applications. Like that time you got one-million pieces of fiberglass in your hand while boating and had to pick them out while on the open ocean. Man, that was a bad day

The squared tip of the Simian Tweezers also means that you get more purchase when dealing with larger objects. This is perfect for those larger splinters, or ticks where the grip is really important so that you don’t fragment it on the way out. Lastly, you don’t lose the precision! Being that they are square, the Simian Tweezers have corners that allow for more precise tasks.

Tweezers are a multitool in and of themselves and minimal by nature. So, grab a pair, and do more with less!

There you have it, and thank you for reading. I tried to keep this article as minimal yet functional as the carry itself.
