As a boy, Björn (@bjorn_beton) always carried a German Bundeswehr Messer. But it wasn’t until he lost his knife (which he thinks his wife threw out), that Björn started researching, which led to his first purchase of a Spyderco Paramilitary 2, and that was how he started down the slippery slope of EDC. Read on to learn all about Björn’s latest evolution of his daily carry, and what’s next on his gear radar.
Featured Tools:
- Slip Joint Knife: Benchmade Proper
The Benchmade Proper is always with me because this slip joint is legal to carry in Germany. I carry it in a Clip Slip leather sheath, done by my good friend Daniel Pokladek.
- Frame Lock Knife: GiantMouse GM1
This big knife is the GM1 from GiantMouse Knives, and it’s my favorite knife at this moment. I love the Anso and Voxnæs designs, always on point. So this collaboration is a dream come true.
- Flashlight: Maratac AAA
A good little flashlight is also part of the everyday carry. I love little flashlights, preferably in copper. This one is the Maratac AAA with a nice patina.
- Utility Tools: Koch Tools Kaplifter & Carpe Diem Coin
Some other nice gear, like the Koch Tools Kaplifter and the Carpe Diem Coin, is optional. However, this Coin means a lot to me. It reminds me to seize the day, and that time is running out. I always forget that because I like wasting my time with useless little things. So it’s a great way to keep me on track. And of course, they are good for some great pocket dump pics.
Background:
During my free time, I love to travel and go on day trips. I always love to see interesting buildings and architecture like churches or castles. I enjoy spending time in nature, whether it’s among the mountains, in the sea, or deep in the forest.
I first got into EDC through my first job where I was a landscaper. I always had a German Bundeswehr Messer with me, and a backpack with important things, like a medical kit, etc. And as I child, I always carried a knife with me, often to prepare food or for carving. During that time, every boy was carrying a knife.
But to pinpoint the exact moment I fell into the EDC rabbit hole was when I lost my knife (I think my wife threw it away.. lol) and then it all began. I got into the expensive knives (the first one was a Spyderco Paramilitary 2). A year after that, I got my first titanium frame lock, a Boker F3 and of course a Vox Design knife soon after. The rest is history.
Favorite EDC Tool:
A big frame lock folder like the GiantMouse GM1 because big knives matter.
What's On Your Gear Radar:
The next thing on my list is a carabiner. I’m considering a Halo or Anso Carabiner, or maybe even the Koch Tools Klasp.
Nice use of Machine Nuts on a cord ….
