All the way from Upper Galilee, Israel, we talk to Ehud (@ehudster) who works as a donor relations manager. Inspired by his grandfather who always carried and used a small knife for peeling apples, Ehud too has developed a penchant for traditional non-locking blades. Read on to find out all about Ehud’s charmingly simple yet superbly functional carry.

- Knife 01: GEC Bullnose
I got this blade just last month because I wanted a real “user” and I’m already in love with its combination of simplicity and excellent build quality. It’s a traditional bull buster design, executed perfectly and in an excellent EDC size with OD linen Micarta handles.
I really like the use of 1095 steel and the patina forming on the blade giving it character and making it your own. The only gripe I have is the very stiff back spring, I’m sure it will get better over time and use.
- SAK: Victorinox Cadet 2016 Limited Edition
Well, this one is a no-brainer for me. I love everything Victorinox and the Cadet is no exception. I always carry a Victorinox multitool, day or night and the Cadet is just perfect for carry.
It’s small, slim, sharp, feels awesome in hand and has a set of useful tools. In my opinion, if you’re thinking of getting your first Victorinox look no further - get a Cadet.
- Flashlight: Lumintop Copper Worm
Like I always carry a blade, I always carry a flashlight. The copper Worm is the higher end selection of the Worm series and is a solid copper built light. It has a wonderful weight to it and of course - patina, patina, patina!
The Worm is not the strongest light, 110 lumens (at the High mode) but it’s enough for me, uses a simple AAA battery and the form factor makes it simply disappear in your pocket.

My name is Ehud Shalev, I’m 35 years old, a proud dad and husband and we all live in the Upper Galilee, the most northern part of Israel.
Currently, I’m working as a donor relations manager at Tel-Hai College, a beautiful lively campus surrounded by green fields.
My main hobby is photography; I’ve been doing it for at least 5 years and recently started taking EDC gear photos. Combining my new fascination with EDC and my love for photography worked out to be awesome.
My love for small folding knives began when I was very young. I can still remember my grandfather reaching into his pocket and with such elegance taking his small knife out to peel his apple or carve into a small branch.
I truly believe that a true gentleman never leaves home without a knife and following my childhood memories, my personal preference is still a small, non-locking blade I can use for small everyday tasks. That is why my main collection consists of Victorinox knives with emphasis on vintage ones.

Favorite EDC Tool:
As hard as it is for me to write (SAK all day!), my favorite out of the three is the GEC Bullnose. It’s a perfect combination of build quality, tradition and usability. It’s a real worker’s knife and I’m happy to see the patina on it forming mainly from peeling apples for my two amazing boys.

Next on my gear list is the new 2018 LE Berry Red Pioneer and hopefully, I’ll get my hands on a GEC #47 Viper.
Most excellent choices! I couldn’t agree more with the simplicity and functionality of a classic slipjoint and a Victorinox knife.
