Welcome to the Urban EDC Showcase! Each week, we feature one member of the EDC community and the gear they rely on every day. Want to be featured? Submit your gear photo.
As a military police officer, Alex relies on his gear to get the job done and he prioritizes real-world functionality above all. Through his occupation, Alex has gained a discerning eye for high-quality gear, and it shows in his everyday carry. Read on for Alex’s full rig rundown, and find out how he selects and deploys his tools, both on-duty and off.
Featured Tools:
- Watch: Omega Seamaster Planet Ocean 600M
This is Omega’s diver series watch. This style is worn by Daniel Craig in his starring roles in the James Bond movies. It features a chronograph and has an automatic winding feature.
- Pocket Briefcase: Levenger Pocket Briefcase
Along with my pen, this is one of my most used pieces of gear. It carries a set of note cards to write on, has pockets for notes, business cards, and my ID. I hated using a notebook because I often would need to rip out pages for someone. This pocket briefcase makes it easier to just hand someone a piece of paper with a list of instructions. This has completely replaced notepads for me.
- Pen: Rite in the Rain
This is my favorite pen, hands down. There is nothing overly stylish about it. It is a rugged pen made for those who need to write in austere environments. It has a pressurized ink cartridge allowing me to write upside down and right side up.
- Tactical Pen: Take Flight Tactical Pen
This is a relatively new addition to my gear bag. I’ve never really had a need for a tactical pen with a glass breaker, but it is something I enjoy carrying. The pen itself writes great. It is really easy to use with gloves since it is so thick.
- Pocket Tool: Victorinox Swiss Army Cadet pocket Knife
This is my choice for when I’m just out with the wife and kids. It isn’t like the tactical knife that I carry in uniform, but it serves better for dad stuff and no one goes crazy when I take it out to use it. It features a file, a bottle opener, screwdrivers, a can opener, and a knife.
- Pocket Organizer: Urban Organizer Hybrid
It has one large pocket which I use to carry my cell phone and two smaller pockets which hold my Rite in the Rain pen and my Victorinox knife.
- Lighter: Black Label El Presidente
My lighter of choice is my Black Label El Presidente. It is a very slim lighter that takes up very little room in my pocket. It is perfect for corralling pesky loose threads or lighting the occasional cigar with other officers.
- Case: Generic Case for My AirPods
Nothing special here, this is just a simple Cordura case to keep my AirPods safe.
- Wallet: Tumi ID Lock L-Fold Alpha
I believe in keeping my money and credit cards all in the same place. There’s nothing really special about this wallet other than the material is an amalgamation of nylon Cordura and leather. Like my phone, I never leave home without it.
- Ring: Triton Tungsten Carbide Ring with a Black Diamond
The proof that I am married is always on me. It’s on a chain around my neck or my left hand’s ring finger.
- Flash Light: SureFire Titan Plus
This is another piece of gear I never leave home without. This little light runs on a single AAA battery, has three levels of illumination, and puts out a max of 300 lumens.
- Weapon and Holster: Sig Sauer P232
This is my off duty carry weapon. It is chambered in .380 ACP (9mm short) and has a capacity of seven rounds. It's a more modern version of James Bond’s iconic weapon. It came standard with night sights and I replaced the grip with a rubber wraparound grip. I carry it in a Bianchi inside the waistband hostler with a spare magazine.
Background:
My name is Alex and I am from New Jersey. I am a military police officer in the Army where I carry different tools for on and off duty.
Whether or not I’m working I always carry a knife. I change up the style of the knife when I am working and not. The same goes for my watch and my weapon. I always carry a pen, flashlight, and my pocket briefcase.
In the warmer months, I enjoy riding my road bike, going scuba diving, and taking my kids to the park. During the winter months, I go skiing and ice skating with my oldest
I was always into EDC, I just never knew there was an entire community dedicated to it. When I was young I always had a knife, watch, wallet, and a pair of sunglasses on me.
As I got older my watch, knife, wallet, and sunglasses changed and I acquired more things. My father is largely inspirational in my EDC as the four basic items I just listed are what he always carried.
Favorite EDC Tool:
I really don’t have a favorite piece of gear. Each piece has its own unique function and benefits. With that being said, I am always looking for an excuse to use my flashlight. Whether it’s trying to find something I dropped in the movie theater or going to bed after my wife has long fallen asleep.
What's On Your Gear Radar:
On the horizon, I’m looking for a new weapon to carry off duty. My current Sig Sauer P232 works great but I am looking for something smaller. I am aiming for something I can mount a weapon light on.
I am considering a Glock 43 with a Crimson Trace Laser Light combo. As far as knives go I’m fairly set. While at work I’m always on the lookout for a new tactical knife. I have had a Benchmade knife for over ten years and they are my favorite brand of knife. Benchmade knives aren’t necessarily artistic looking but they are by far the best tactical knives I’ve ever owned.
Try a Sig Sauer P365 with the sig laser. It is small, concealable and shoots great. But the G43 isn’t a bad choice either!

I am very intrigued by the man who’s pockets hold these kinds of tactical gear. Thank you for sharing Sir 🤗
