From Düsseldorf, we chat with Felix (@new.knife.order) who works as a freelance photographer. His love for knives waned as he was growing up and was recently reignited when he stepped into a Victorinox Flagship Store. Read on to learn all about Felix’s EDC journey and what’s his favorite piece of gear in his carry.
Featured Tools:
- Knife: Chris Reeve Sebenza
Hard to believe, but the small Sebenza was one of my first purchases when I got into knives 3 years ago. It is a well-built and reliable cutting tool. Nothing fancy, just a good knife.
- Flashlight: Okluma DC1
The Okluma DC1 is my latest acquisition. I've collected a bunch of different flashlights, but I never had a custom made one. I like the simple and clean look and it pairs perfectly with the Sebenza.
- Key Organizer: Keybar
This holds all my necessary keys in a compact unit. Easy to handle and safely clipped in my pants.
- Pen: Fellhoelter TiBolt
A little bit bulky, but it feels good in my hands. Like the Okluma and Sebenza it’s a well-crafted piece of titanium. This is the only pen that made it in my EDC rotation. Still looking for a black one. - Tool: Rat Bastard Enigma
A really small tool, but it’s more than enough for my everyday life. I can easily remove the tripod plate from my camera with it.
Background:
My name is Felix and I’m a freelance photographer based with my family in West Germany, Düsseldorf. I primarily photograph people and industry events for work.
As far as I can remember, I've always had some sort of knife in my pocket when I was young. As a kid, I had everything from SAKs, a big survival Rambo style knife, throwing knives, and even balisongs. Nowadays it’s illegal to own a balisong or an OTF in Germany.
I lost my interest in knives at the age of 12 or so. Recently, I got back into knives when I was looking for a present for a colleague. I went into a Victorinox store and immediately fell in love again! I bought an Alox for my colleague and myself. A few weeks later I bought a Small Sebenza, and as they say, the rest is history.
Most of my free time is spent with my family, riding a bike, hiking, or exploring the city.
Favorite EDC Tool:
That’s easy, it’s the Sebenza for sure. My EDC journey started with the Sebenza and I love it. Just simple and perfect.
What's On Your Gear Radar:
Hard to say, maybe a custom 93mm SAK with titanium scales.
