Welcome to the Urban EDC Showcase! Each week, we feature a member of the EDC community and the gear they rely on every day. Want to be featured? Submit your gear photo.
From London, Joel (@incognitocarry) is an aspiring photographer and full-time swimming instructor (so he can’t carry his gear when working). He first got into EDC through watching YouTube videos before discovering a new community of like-minded individuals. Read on to find out how Joel navigates UK’s strict knife laws and what’s next on his gear radar.
Featured Tools:
- Knife: Vox Knives Fox Suru
This is the UK legal edition and it’s, in my opinion, one of the best UK legal options. It fits great in the hand, hasn't left my pocket since I got it.
- Flashlight: Olight S1RII Copper
My girlfriend bought this for Christmas one year but then I lost it. So I had to sneakily buy a new one, it's amazing but I'm starting to think about a titanium flashlight.
- Pocket Tool: Big Idea Design TPT
TPT stands for Titanium Pocket Tool. It’s a great backup knife just to beat up but is so versatile with its uses.
- Utility Tool: Griffin Pocket Tool
This is the EDC Cooperative edition – mainly just to represent the brotherhood I found through the Facebook group but it's good to have a pry bar.
- Organizer: Urban Companion Wallet
This is the Urban EDC Supply exclusive 3-pocket Urban Organizer. Once I saw it, I couldn't help but buy it helps me keep everything together and is aging beautifully.
What's your story:
I am an aspiring photographer or failing photographer depending on how you want to put it. I started taking photographs of gear about three months ago and it has kept me going with the craft even when I can't get out and take photos of what I enjoy.
My real job is a swimming instructor, so sadly all my gear goes in a locker as i am at work. I'm from the London area so carry a knife is very frowned upon although I am within the law.
I first got into EDC when I came across “Cutlery Lover” on YouTube. I found many other YouTubers like “Best Damn EDC” before he made his new channel. Seeing that so many people had awesome gear really sparked an interest to which I guess grew into a fire of spending all my money on gear.
In my spare time, I do a lot of rock climbing and go to the gym both ways to push my body physically. Rock climbing seems to be a really great way of almost meditation and the gym works great as a stress relief.
Traveling is always on the agenda so most of my carry can be taken as carry-on (obviously without the blade), which makes traveling Europe earlier this year a breeze with all the tools I had on hand if I needed anything (in reality just a bottle opener for all the beer).
Favorite EDC Tool:
My favorite piece will have to be the Griffin Pocket Tool mainly because it has been with me for so long. It is the special version from the Facebook group where I found so many like-minded people within "EDC Cooperative”. Also because it has been with me through so many adventures from kayaking to hiking mountains from Italian backstreets and rooftops of Paris. It doesn't seem to leave my pocket.
What's On Your Gear Radar:
The next piece of gear I'm looking at is probably a titanium flashlight or a custom Swiss Army Knife.
