Featured Tools:
This is what lives in my pockets (or on my desk) most of the time nowadays.
- Pen + Flashlight: Prometheus
The Ti pen (Alpha Pen, with a Bock nib) and flashlight (Beta-QR V2) are both from Prometheus Lights. Titanium is definitely the material I’ve fallen most in love with this year, I’m not a patina guy. The grooved machining on these gets me hyped every time I hold and use these. They exemplify the kind of design I find myself enjoying the most: minimal and simple, but distinctive.
- Pen + Utility Knife: Big Idea Design
The Black pen (Arto EDC) and utility knife (TPT Slide) are from Big Idea Design; I pretty much always carry two pens with me. I used to write a lot in college, and I’ve been trying to get back in the habit of it this year.
Usually, I use one pen for journaling, and one for work / notes / lists. The Arto is my current ‘work’ pen; it’s loaded with a Mont Blanc blue fine liner. I love that it can pretty much take any refill, and the coating on it feels great.
The TPT slide is a great little everyday blade. I live in NYC, which has super archaic knife laws, so I tend to only carry small and discrete blades. A utility knife like this fits the bill pretty well. I love the extra built-in tools, and that I can use their proprietary safety blade, or a standard utility blade, which is what I have in there now.
- SAK: Victorinox
The last item is a SAK Mini Champ, with Alox scales. I’ve always been a sucker for Victorinox. Had their knives since I was a kid. I bought this on a whim, and in the past I’d always written off the smaller models as more of a novelty.
This quickly became my favorite SAK. Alox scales are dope, great in the hand, and add a tiny bit of heft and grip. One of those “everything you need, nothing you don’t” kind of pieces.
- Valet Tray: Base Object
The valet tray is from Base Object! Shout out to Richard Liu. Decided that I dig orange this year.
Background:
I’m based in NYC! Born in West Virginia. Grew up in Brooklyn. I’m a photographer (“fine art”, whatever that means...) too. Went to college a little bit north of the city, and next year I’ll be an MFA in Photography candidate which I’m incredibly excited about.
I just joined the Urban EDC Supply team! Going to be running and gunning the customer service experience from here on out. I’ve only been on board for a couple of weeks and it’s already been a fantastic experience. I love working with a small team, and I’m excited to get to know the EDC community even better.
I’ve always been interested in gear and gadgets, since I was a kid. I started learning about the EDC community specifically sometime during college, maybe around my junior year. It was exciting to find out that there were other people into the same geeky stuff that I was.
Aside from photography and art, I’m a pretty avid reader and gamer - just finished up Ghost of Tsushima. A good day for me is getting a walk in and shooting a couple rolls of film. Also a big music geek (current album rotation: Blues Funeral by Mark Lanegan, Ohms by Deftones, Free by Iggy Pop).
Favorite EDC Tool:
I’d have to say it’s the Alpha Pen. One of the first really nice pens I got for myself, and it feels sentimental and special to have a nice piece like that coincide with getting back into the habit of writing regularly.
What's next on my Gear Radar:
I can already feel myself getting sucked into the custom flashlight abyss... got my eye on a Sinner Custom... maybe an Okluma later in the year. I’m secretly saving my pennies for a Sinn 356 too.
