Born and raised by the Baltic sea, Torsten (@_zedder82_) is a harbor fitter working with massive ships, offshore cranes, and operating by the principle that everything is possible. Reflecting that same can-do attitude, Torsten's highly practical carry covers all his bases from light tasks to heavy-duty chores. Read on to find out how Torsten's EDC journey started and what he values most above all else.
What's in your carry?
- SAK: Modified
I built this mod for myself in my favorite configuration. A while ago I got an OC Farmer with a broken blade but had these fantastic battle-worn scales which tell a story about a life of usage.
So I decided to use it for a mod and to prevent it from having a life in a box. It's an example of how good a real user can look!! The favorite of my mods.
- Pry Bar: Compact Jimmy
This pry bar is called "Compact Jimmy," gifted to me by Lars from @jimping_72! Made out of hardened tool steel, it's a real powerhouse. It opens my beers, helps me with boxes, and isn't too fine for screws or nails. So it's a real monster for the rough jobs!
- Fixed Blade: Giant Mouse GMF-1F
Because I am living in Germany and our knife laws are not the easiest, I carry this strong fixed blade. One-handed opening folders with locks are not legal to carry in public so I decided to go with this little Mouse. Built like a tank, sharp as hell, and very comfortable to carry. It's my go-to option for the heavy jobs where a slip joint would reach its limits!
- Wallet & Organizer: EDC Journal & Spades Goods
This wallet and the organizer came from the talented hands of my good friend Pavol from @edcjournal and @spadesgoods. He has done a phenomenal job on both and they are sooo good. I asked him about a wallet for five cards and he surprised me with this beauty. The organizer was my first one and is still my favorite!
- Hank: Real Men Carry
The hank comes from my friend, Marcel, of @real_men_carry. He makes very stylish hanks in different dimensions. They are not that big but that's better in my opinion because this makes them very comfortable to carry in my back pocket. I have other hanks too, although his ones are perfect for me!
- Flashlight: Various
I use different flashlights, no special brands, the only preference I have is to have different light modes.
- Pocket Gems: Carpe Diem Coin, Beads & Dice
Now we come to my really good friend Owen from @owen_edc! The coin was a gift from him as a sign of our friendship. The coin has been my lucky charm since I got it from him. I have known Owen since we met here on IG when he first started his account. He's a heck of a guy and he has a heart of pure gold. He also makes these awesome beads and dice! And they are a resident part of my EDC.
- Bottle Opener: Caphtool Panda
Yeah, the panda made out of brass. Kills every bottle cap and is good to know I have it in my pocket. Looks good, feels good and works good!
What's your story?
I'm Torsten, born, raised and living in Rostock, Northeast Germany by the Baltic sea with my wife and my son.
I'm a fitter at a harbor working with ships and offshore cranes from 70 tons to 5000 tons – everything is possible.
My EDC journey started with the search for some gear for my bike – a multitool for bicycles. And then I discovered more and more things and thought "yeah I need that, that, and that" Haha, we all know how it starts.
Another thing, which went perfectly side by side was my hobby of collecting Victorinox knives. While searching for a special model I saw the mods by @875fps and that started my interest in modding my own ones.
Then after all this time, I now have a lot of gear and stuff from all over the planet.
A hobby I enjoy a lot and have gotten into more is photography since I have been in the EDC community. I have done some before but not on the level I do now. It has improved very much since I have had the chance to meet a lot of people on IG like Junya (@the.owl.edc ) and Sam (@raven_the_pirate ) – who have helped a lot with hints, tips, and tricks. Thanks, guys!
But most of my free time is for family. Family always comes first! It's so nice to see my son grow, seeing him discover the world and the ability to accompany him means more to me than anything!
Favorite EDC Tool?
Definitely the coin! She stands for friendship and I would give all of my stuff away, only to keep that friendship! I can replace all but the friendship – I cannot!
What's On Your Gear Radar?
The Spyderco Smock! Flipper, Spyderco, and all in a damn hot design!
