Welcome to the Urban EDC Showcase! Each week, we feature one member from the EDC community and the gear they rely on every day. Want to be featured? Submit your gear photo.
Joining us this week for our EDC community feature is Jeff Clubb (@clubbn5) from Dupo, Illinois. Jeff works as a lead aircraft painter, and his choice of tools is something to behold. If you appreciate craftsmanship and quality, you definitely do not want to miss out on Jeff’s exquisitely curated carry.
Featured Tools:
- Knife: Mick Strider
This is a custom Mick Strider SnG Nightmare Grind. It’s nicknamed the “Sharkbite” due to the wicked serrations. I wanted this knife ever since I first laid eyes on it. I love its unique and one-of-a-kind look. Honestly, as far as using my knives goes, I don't use them for much except opening other gear mail calls!
- Flashlight: Hanko Machine Works
This masterpiece is the Twisted Trident in Damascus, created by the one and only Jeff Hanko. The triple LED design isn't something new but the artistic expression of Jeff Hanko's work is just amazing. I use my lights daily for aircraft paint inspections, so why not do it in style? Also complementing the beauty of the light is a beautiful Steel Flame pocket clip.
- Pen: Hidetoshi Nakayama
The most used tool in my carry is this Hidetoshi Nakayama bolt-action pen. I use this to fill out paperwork at work and there is definitely a lot of it.
I discovered this pen through Instagram and just fell in love with the design. It's made of steel which I thought would rust. However, despite using it daily, it shows no signs of rust at all.
- Hank: Fox Hanx
I use my Fox Hanx handkerchief mostly for wiping my little ones’ boogers. I prefer Fox Hanx because their construction and quality are second to none. Also, I consider Mary Beth and Michael as friends.
Background:
I first got into EDC through a friend of a friend who always had handy gear on him. After buying a house and doing some work on it, I realized that I needed some essential tools like a knife and flashlight. Through Instagram and other sources, my hobby quickly evolved into an addiction for custom knives and flashlights.
My EDC started with a Benchmade knife and a Fenix flashlight which I was happy with and carried for years. Then I found Instagram and that opened up a whole new world.
Next step for me was a production Strider knife and a Lenslight flashlight which I carried and was happy with. Then I made friends with the same hobbies and talking to them moved me into the custom arena. Now, I have quite a few custom knives and flashlights. I don't always carry the specific items pictured but always have a variation of these essentials on me.
My philosophy is to always have something unique and different from what others carry and #nosafequeenhere. I love to use my gear and being prepared gives me a peace of mind.
Favorite EDC Tool:
My favorite piece in my EDC is my Hanko Machine Works Twisted Trident. Whether it’s this particular flashlight or one of my others, I just love flashlights and consider myself to be a proud “Flashaholic”. Also, I’m just a big fan of Jeff Hanko’s work.
