Welcome to the Urban EDC Showcase! Each week, we feature one member of the EDC community and the gear they rely on every day. Want to be featured? Submit your gear photo.
Even with a cursory glance, it’s immediately evident that this carry belongs to someone with a keen eye for detail. So it’s no surprise when Ge (@samxuge) shares that he’s currently pursuing his PhD in Macroeconomics and tutors Master students in mathematics in his spare time. Read on for the full rig rundown of Ge’s exquisite and carefully assembled daily carry.
Featured Tools:
- Flashlight: Sinner Customs Tri-EDC Titanium
The suburb where I’m currently living in is only crowded during working hours. There are hardly any people around after 6 to 7 pm. I work till quite late sometimes, and I need to pass the grove from the campus back home.
That’s why I need a flashlight for daily carry. The Sinner Tri-EDC is among the top flashlights on the market. I got this one from UrbanEDCSupply several weeks ago. It has a solid Ti body and scratch resistant AR-coated sapphire crystal lens. It has 3 High CRI Nichia 219C emitters (which I love) and has 5 useful modes from moonlight all the way to Turbo.
- Writing Tools: Field Notes, Muji A5 Notebook, Maxmadco Ti Bolt Action Pen
I was a big fan of Field Notes even before I started to collect EDC gear. Since I live in Australia, I’m unable to subscribe to their annual limited-edition release list.
I still bought a lot from local retailers. I do use GTD apps on my phone but I prefer to note down ideas on real paper. I also take an A5 notebook with me as I may need to write equations or draw graphs.
Maxmadco is the only pen on my EDC list, it may be the best bolt-action pen in the market (personal opinion). It may not look fancy or have any extra accessories. It just does its work in a proper way. I’m also interested in the Mover designed by Tactile Turn. They are releasing the new version next month, I will keep my eyes out for that.
- Keychain:
I do not have a fixed combination of my keychain carry, but I always carry a key hook or a carabiner, a keychain-sized flashlight and a tritium lantern.
Currently, I am carrying the La Calavera Skull Bronze Key Hook from de Luxe Standard, quite a unique design and handmade in the US with a tritium lantern from Bullaculla, a multifunctional tool from Atwood (Peter always has good designs) and Quantum D2 from Veleno Designs.
I also have several substitutions, including a very rare tritium locator ‘Maze’ which is also from Veleno Designs and the LT-R0 flashlight from PKT designs. LT-R0 is really a unique little torch, comes with Nichia 219C, sapphire glass, titanium alloy shell and 4 tritium vials. Two 2032 lithium batteries provide 50 to 55 lumens and up to 2 hours run time.
- Watch: Tudor Black Bay
My watch is my real EDC, I wear it every day, even during the weekends. This Tudor Black Bay is the latest version which has the first in-house movement made by Tudor. I’m thinking about getting a Rubber B strap or Everest Band for it.
Background:
My name is Ge, from China, currently living in Sydney. I am a PhD. candidate from Macquarie University and my major is Macroeconomics. I spend most of my days doing research studies, aside from my own work, I also tutor for Master students.
Whenever I have some spare time, I would devote myself to watching sports news/games (I am following Seattle Seahawks in NFL, LA Lakers in NBA and Arsenal in EPL), and of course, spending time in the EDC community.
I am still sort of fresh in the EDC community. I was first attracted by some pictures of EDC gear on Instagram, I started to explore works from talent makers then I got seriously collecting some of the fantastic gears in late 2015.
I still remember the first three gears I purchased were the R.U.T from Rexford, KeyBar and TUKK. I love beautiful things, especially nice micro items, so I decided to expand my collection in three main categories - tritium lanterns (I want to get everything from Bullaculla), bottle openers (Jasper’s Voxsnails, Voxpings are my favorite designs) and flashlights.
I really enjoy sharing my gear with my friends, online or offline. It feels so good when I hear ‘Wow, such a beautiful piece of work’ from others. More importantly, these gear are my reliable friends and I always feel ease when carrying them along the way.
Favorite EDC Tool:
The Tudor Black Bay is always on my wrist. I am the guy who cannot go without my watch. When I raise my wrist, it is not only to check the time, but also to enjoy a piece of art in design. I am also a big fan of Casio G-Shock, especially the GW-5000 line.
Next On Your Gear Radar:
I’ve got several targets on my list. I will get the Muyshondt Aeon MK. III Titanium if possible, I just hope they do not let it become discontinued. The one from Barrel Flashlight CO. is also gorgeous (it seems like I am flashlight addict!).
