Welcome to the Urban EDC Showcase! Each week, we feature one member of the EDC community and the gear they rely on every day. Want to be featured? Submit your gear photo.
This week, we are back with another community feature with Michael (@alexandersupertramp_3) from Canada, who works as a mechanical engineer. Michael first got into EDC through his friend (who gifted him with a knife he won) and the rest, as they say, is history. Read on for the full rig rundown and to find out how Michael incorporates his carry into his everyday.
Featured Tools:
- Knife 01: Zero Tolerance 0450 This was my first titanium frame-lock flipper. I really love how it has a sturdy build without being bulky which makes it a great EDC knife.
- Knife 02: Case Cutlery Mini CopperLock
I purchased this knife because I wanted a small traditional style knife. I like that it has a single blade which keeps it slim and the fact it has a locking mechanism makes it a little sturdier.
- SAK: Victorinox Cadet Alox
This is one of the most popular SAKs and for a very good reason. It's compact and light while also having a lot of versatility.
- Flashlight: Olight S Mini Bead Blasted Titanium
You may notice a theme with the titanium items. This flashlight is really nice because it's a very bright light in a small package. It has a really good side click with an intuitive UI and the pocket clip is strong enough that you don't worry about losing it.
- Pen: Big Idea Design Ti Pocket Pro
This pen ticks a lot of boxes for me. I like its compact size, it has a strong pocket clip and it's able to take almost any refill you would want which makes it very versatile. It's also titanium with a stonewashed finish which I also love.
- Prybar: Boker Plus Vox Access Tool
I carry this around for two reasons mainly. It's also stonewashed titanium and it has a bottle opener.
- Wallet: Hitch & Timber Pocket Runt 2.0
I'm using the H&T Pocket Runt as a wallet at the moment because it's able to carry a few cards or bills while also carrying enough EDC tools to cover all your bases. If you leave the house with only this in your pockets then you'll still have just about everything you need throughout the day.
- Caddy: Beard & Owl Horween Pocket Caddy
This item is really high quality and functional. I can carry a small traditional knife and a flashlight in my pocket without them getting scratched up. The leather is really soft and just keeps getting better with age.
Background:
My name is Michael and I'm a mechanical engineer from Canada. I've been carrying pocket knives or multitools with me since can remember. My dad always carried a pocket knife with him and he gave me my first one when I was around 10 years old.
I like to spend a lot of time outdoors so always having the right tool with you, whether that be a knife, screwdriver or flashlight always comes in handy. I also like to play sports, both soccer and of course hockey, or mainly spending time with my kids before they grow up and don't want me around.
I first got into the EDC community when a friend of mine gave me a knife that he had won in a contest. I ended up losing that one but when I went to replace it I found the variety of pocket knives that I never knew existed. I started collecting knives and that spilled into flashlights which led to pens and so on.
Favorite EDC Tool:
My favorite item would probably be the ZT 0450 because I love the materials and construction and it's also fun to fidget with. But if I could only choose one item to have it would have to be the Victorinox Cadet because of its versatility.
Next On Your Gear Radar:
I'm always upgrading my gear and my next items would probably be a high-quality knife like a Chris Reeve Sebenza or a high-end custom flashlight light like the new Muyshondt Beagle Mk. I in the Relic Copper finish.
