Welcome to the Urban EDC Showcase! Each week, we feature one member of the EDC community and the gear they rely on every day. Want to be featured? Submit your gear photo.
On our last community showcase of the year, we talk to Lonnie from Fort Wayne, Indiana, who works as a Sr. Network Engineer. Being the multi-talented and jack-of-all-trades modern man that he is, Lonnie is involved in everything from primitive tent camping to fine-dining, gun collecting to playing the piano. Read on to find out more about Lonnie’s intriguingly diverse interests and everyday carry!
Featured Tools:
- Knife: Custom Knife Factory S.S.E.
This is hands-down the best knife I’ve owned albeit a bit small for my tastes. It’s extremely sharp and I use it for opening packages and various other household tasks.
- Flashlight: Oveready Boss
This Oveready Boss 70 Copper flashlight is a must for me. I use it for everything involving computer repairs in no light or dimly lit scenarios to finding stuff that has fallen under my desk at work to taking an evening stroll in the dark. This light just fulfills every need that I have including ramping, heat management, close to 3500 of lumens of output on a 2x18350 configuration or around 1900 on a single 18650 that can run for a long time. There is absolutely no other light I’ve owned that has been as good as the Oveready Boss.
- Flashlight 02: Reylight
A fantastic little light that runs on AA batteries or Eneloop rechargeable AA’s if my 18350s/18650 are running low in the Boss. It also houses Tritium in the tail like the keyfob I have attached to the Boss in order to find it easily or utilize as a secondary light source when wanting to be a covert in the dark.
- Screwdriver Set: Scout Leather Co. Driver
I got this full titanium Scout Leather Co. Driver, along with the bits and Leather roll from UrbanEDCSupply. I use this for various reasons. I have a lot of electronics and general daily household items that need a bit driver to add batteries, repair or replace components, etc.
- Organizer: Urban Organizer
I use this to organize and protect all of my EDC essentials including the Word Notepad on the right. It assists in keeping everything unscuffed and organized in a single location without overcrowding my pocket(s).
- Pen: Prometheus Writes
This titanium Alpha Pen is simply unbreakable. It has survived the test of time and runs on a Monte Blanc cartridge for superior writing, note taking, and documentation.
- Notebook: Word Notebook
I use this for everything and I believe that a notepad for general use should be in a compact size like this.
- Spinner: Custom Knife Factory
I got this Pepyakka Z Spinner with tritium inserts on a steep discount when CKF was running a special Thanksgiving deal. I bought it to have something to distract me from stress at times and it also looks neat.
- Hank: Fox Hanx
I use this for wiping my mouth, cleaning up spills, setting the table in case of a dirty setting, and even laying out my EDC on it from time-to-time.
Background:
My name is Lonnie William Aldrich III and I’m based in Fort Wayne, Indiana though I’m originally from South Carolina. I’m employed with Frontier Communications on contract as a Sr. Network Engineer performing routing, switching, multiplexing, architectural, design, engineering and re-engineering on the network as well as the deployment of Connect America Funded DSLAMs.
I’m a jack-of-all-trades and have an extensive amount of hobbies. Everything from outdoor primitive tent camping, hiking, running, gun collecting/target shooting, EDC collecting, photography, piano, fine-dining, car-modding, pc-modding, DJI drone flight and repair, and even video gaming on a semi-competitive level.
I only recently began collecting EDC items but EDC has been on my radar since around 2009 when I entered into the world of Milsim. This is partially due to the fact that I could not afford any luxury items until attaining my current lucrative position.
Favorite EDC Tool:
My favorite item has to be the Oveready Boss 70. I am a bit of a flashlight fanatic hence my association with the facebook group Flashlight Fanatics as well as several other light makers’ pages. This light has outperformed every other light I’ve owned on every level.
Next On Your Gear Radar:
I would like to acquire a large bladed knife such as a Reate K-1 or a CKF Muscle. I would also like to one day acquire a Hanko Machine Works Gunner Grip Trident in Ti.
