This week, we talk to David (@d1ggs13) from Eastern Long Island, New York. David owns and operates his own company, and he calls upon his daily carry many times during the course of a workday. Read on for the full rundown of David's high-quality gear, and how he makes use of them.
Featured Tools:
- Knife: Mayo TnT
I love the simplicity of the Mayo TnT. It’s a very slender knife and carries very well in my pocket. It's perfect in every way. I've had a few Mayo's but I find that the 3 1/4" blade length like this one is just right.
- Light: Muyshondt Aeon MKIII Bead Blasted Titanium
This is an incredible little light. You simply can't beat the output, clicky and clip. What's not to love? I've also added a Wabi-Sabi Skulls Neanderthal lanyard bead.
- Watch: Lum-Tec Super Combat B1
This is my first "expensive" watch purchase at the time. It has really great lume so it’s very visible in the dark, and the large numbers make it very fast and easy to read. It’s on a custom made strap that’s created from a very cool vintage canvas, which has lots of character.
- Pen: Prometheus Writes Alpha
This is my most used pen. It’s lightweight and in my opinion, you can't beat Mont Blanc refills when it comes to writing experience and smoothness.
Background:
I own and operate my own company that specializes in automated driveway gates. There is a big demand for privacy, security and protecting landscape investments in this area.
Everything I carry EDC wise gets used daily. I'm constantly writing up work orders, material list, job schedules - so a pen is a must. I'm also constantly opening boxes of materials for jobs, cutting zip ties, shrink wrap, list goes on and on. I also spend a lot of time in basements doing phone tie ins for telephone entry systems, so a small light is absolutely crucial for poorly lit basements.
I've always carried some form of these tools since I first joined the workforce, but as I've gotten older I've looked more for quality, handmade items. The hunt is always fun for that next "must have".
I'm a family man and my down time is spent with them. This time of year it's the beach, bumming through Saturday and Sunday. Grilling and playing in the surf. In the fall I like to go camping with my oldest son Owen (7 years old).
I love the outdoors because I grew up in Arizona. And the one thing I miss the most is the winding roads through the mountains. Long Island is great but nothing beats the mountains. I recently picked up longboarding and I enjoy a slow cruise to unwind from the craziness of work.
Favorite EDC Tool:
If I had to choose a favorite piece of gear it would be the Mayo because a knife is just so useful.
My previous Mayo was a huge purchase for me. It's the most I ever spent on a knife and I eventually sold it. I couldn't really swing other purchases but really wanted to see what else was out there in the custom world. I regretted selling my old Mayo and really wanted to get another.
Out of nowhere, this Mayo TnT popped up, with flat scales like my old covert but with S30v steel blade. I really liked the hole pattern on handle and the size was perfect. So I'm very happy that I was able to get another Mayo. It's the perfect everyday carry knife.
