An orthopaedic technician by trade, Sam's (@sam_von_amantharochen) love affair for all things sharp started with his father's CRKT, and further fuelled by his uncle's Spyderco sprint run collection. Read for the full rig rundown and find out all about Sam's appreciation for all things Mick Strider.
Featured Tools:
- Folder: Mick Strider Custom Knives
This is a Mick Strider Custom SMF dagger with a high hollow ground S35VN steel blade, bronzed orange peel titanium frame and carbon fiber show side. I have chosen the SMF because it’s a good slicer, lightweight and to be honest, it just looks awesome.
- Fixed blade: Mick Strider Custom Knives
This SLCC dagger is made of S30V blade steel with an alien spine cord wrap. For a long time, I’ve only carried a folder because it’s easier to carry than a fixed blade knife. But the SLCC with its slim profile and the smaller 3 finger handle is awesome for the front pocket of my jeans, or attached to the strap of my sling bag.
- Pen: Nottinghoelter
This is a Nottinghoelter collaboration between Nottingham and Fellhoelter. I have always liked the CNC work from the Fellhoelter’s TiBolts and the size of the Nottingham Clicker pen. Together, it's perfect for everyday use.
- Cigar stand: Aciddrop designs
This is my Aciddrop designs TiPop cigar stand. I simply like the look of it, and well, to also play with it.
- Pouch MPDWA
This is made in Berlin. It features a lockable zipper, padded inner and a hidden space for the key behind the velcro. Incredibly handy.
- Bead: Handmade
The small little beads are made by myself. They are made from titanium and has a nicely textured, anodized orange peel finish.
My story:
Hi, I’m Sam and I work as an orthopaedic technician and I’m based in Gütersloh, Germany.
I first got in contact with EDC since by young age. My father always had a CRKT M16 with him, which I used every time it was possible. When I grew older my uncle told me that he was collecting Spyderco sprint runs, which naturally led me to more expensive knives!
At age of 18, I’ve started to buying a lot of different knives, mostly Spyderco blades. But once I’ve got my hands on a Strider Knives SA, I instantly felt in love with it.
With this purchase, a lifelong affinity was started. I have owned a lot of different knives from Strider, but ended up loving the SMF, which is a big folder, and the SLCC, which is a medium-sized concealed carry fixed blade. Oh, and also, I’m getting custom scales for SLCC as we speak!
By and by, I got more into pens and smaller EDC pieces like knucks and beads. To be honest, I don’t need those knucks and beads, but it’s good to have them!
In my free time, I like to spend time with my girlfriend and friends, playing video games, riding my fixie and of course, eating good food and drinking some good beer.
Favorite EDC Tool:
That’s easy. My favorite EDC tool is my one of Strider SLCC, which you can see in the picture. It is perfect in size, because the blade is between a standard size and a XL SLCC. I do love the ergonomics on the SLCC and the fact that it is super easy to carry.
What's On Your Gear Radar:
I really would like to get another Strider MSC SMF in full titanium. Maybe a nightmare grind but a second dagger would be the better choice for daily use.
