As a veteran product designer, Vincent (@vincent_van_gear) gravitates naturally towards good design. His eye for beauty and attention to detail are evident by his choice of carry, which features gear that combines function with form in unique ways. Featured Tools:
- Flashlight: Lumintop
The Tool AAA is nothing special, but I like this model which is really unbeatable when it comes to being value for money.
- Pencil 01: Kaweco Sketch Up
This hexagonal clutch pencil is one of my favorites, in which usability and aesthetics meet. Brass with nice patina... Best! :)
- Pencil 02: Fellhoelter
The TiBolt ReLeaded Pencil is a mechanical pencil version in the deluxe size of the legendary Fellhoelter titanium pen. It is a bit heavy, but I like it and use a lot. Awesome piece!
- Carabiner: Peter Döring
This custom carabiner is my favorite and comes in stonewashed brass and titanium. I built it for myself on Peter’s website, which is an awesome chance for an almost custom gear!
- Accessories: TEC & Vargo
On my keychain carry, I've got the TEC Embrite Glow Fob in solid titanium and the Vargo Emergency Whistle, also in titanium.
- Spoon: Black Swan Handmade Tiny forged coffee spoon
I love spoons. I often use them as I'm a coffee addict, so it came logically that I needed an EDC spoon for everyday use. I found the fantastic Black Swan who made these totally hand forged spoons. I have a bronze and a titan version, and I tell you these are unrepeatable and real beauties!
- Knife: Strider SNG DGG + Berlin Tiworks Pivots Ti Hardware + GD Skulls Clips
This is the most pimped gear in my collection. I do not usually transform or upgrade my stuff, but this is an exception. I bought it from Mr Decaffeinato (everybody knows that guy) so this makes it unique too. It came with a fun regrind (which is supposedly was made by Mr Strider himself) and he changed the original pivot to a Berlin Tiworks Pivots Hardware (with tritium glow), plus I further pimped it with GD Skulls clips ... :D
Background:
My hobbies are design and technology. I really like exploring new technologies and gadgets, reading about their backgrounds, etc. I also enjoy hiking, camping, cycling and I read a lot as well.
I first got into EDC through knives. First, I started collecting bushcraft knives and traditional Hungarian folders, and I noticed that some people whom I followed on Instagram had a lot of other items next to the knives in the photos. I fell in love with the compositions, but then I discovered other useful items such as carabiners, pens, flashlights and more.
For the feature, I tried to take a photo of a typical EDC for me. I always make sure that what I pack will be useful for me. This is the reason why I carry multiple pencils with because I'm a designer, so I often use them for drawings and mockups.
Also, I like carabiners because I carry many keys, and this is also the reason why I wear and started to collect small folders. In Europe, knife legislation is relatively strict. In my country, the legal blade length is only 8 cm / 3.15".
Favorite EDC Tool:
My favorite is maybe the Lucas Burnley Small Kwaiken Flipper Knife, which is the original version, not the one made by Boker. It is made of titanium (the material I really like), and its shape has some unique aesthetics. These two assets make it especially elegant... so I love it, and use it often! :D
What's On Your Gear Radar:
I would like to try the Ansø Monte Carlo by Jens Ansø, for example the upgraded version with forced patina or some special piece. It has a really beautiful minimal design, and it seems the archetype of the classic folder. Modern materials and appearance with traditional nail nick opening and slip joint design. I still have to make friends with its price, as it is a bit higher than what I'm used to. So if somebody has a used one which would like to sell, just let me know ... :)
