As a lover of the great outdoors, Niclas (@sharp_elegance) prefers tools made from natural materials that start out homogeneous but will develop a patina and personality and tell a personal story of the user. Read on to learn about Niclas’ ruggedly refined carry and how he inspires and mentors school-boys as a social worker.

- SAK: Custom Brasswerx 93mm SAK
This is a 3-layer custom built SAK with beautifully rounded titanium scales. I use the Phillips screwdriver very often. This custom SAK contains a wood saw, electrician blade, and an awl. These tools makes it great for using inside the house and outdoors too.
There’s a great story behind this SAK. I sent the original custom build to another maker to add some titanium scales. The knife ended up getting lost by the mail service. The maker didn't hesitate to build a new knife with the same toolset to replace the lost knife. So I not only received a perfect tool but a true friend as well.
- SAK 2: Custom 91mm SAK "Compact" with Woroknives Brass Scales
I like the 91mm Compact for it minimal but useful tools. It’s perfect for carrying and using in the office. The awesome brass scales were made by Andrzej. By the way, I am not a fan of the House Lannister, I simply like the lion.
- Knife: Great Eastern Cutlery #82 Dixie Stockman
I love to carry stuff that gets patina. I really like the carbon steel blades and the wonderful Sambar stag scales of this knife. I use this knife mainly for preparing food (like cutting apples for the children), whittling, and of course for admiring its beauty!
- Flashlight: Maratac AAA Copper Flashlight
This light is as beautiful as it is useful. It’s very lightweight and small, so it´s always in my pocket. The raw copper body develops a gorgeous patina.
- Pen: Midori Brass Ballpoint Pen
I guess you got my concept by now. I like this small pen for its raw brass body.
- Hank: Made by Krzystof "Mr. Mruk"
I never understood why so many people were carrying an EDC hank. I got in contact with Krzystof and decided to give it a try. Now I don't leave home without one. I carry it every day in my back pocket. I frequently use it as a "plate" or to sit on it when going for a hike in the woods. It is also great to present my EDC stuff on!
- Worry Stone: Custom by @twistedtags13
I like to hold and view this worry stone made of copper for its simple but important message: Life is good! The backside has a structured pattern, so I like to hold and feel it in my hand while finding solutions for daily tasks.
- Organizer: Pocket Leather Organizer
I use to carry the GEC. The Maratac and Midori Pen fit perfectly in this pocket slip in the back of my jeans. I started to work with leather some months ago. This one was proudly made by myself.
Background:
My name is Niclas (Nick in social media), 43 years old and I live in the north of Germany in Lüneburg. I am a qualified social education worker in child-welfare and mainly work with parents and their children who are in difficult situations.
I meet once a week with a group of school-boys. We often go out exploring in the woods. We like to use our knives and tools to create something made out of wood, starting campfires, and so on. It's great to see them having fun in nature and not only at home in front of the television or Playstation.
I’ve carried knives, mainly a Swiss Army Knife, as long as I can remember. My grandfather always used to carry a knife. He would create toys such as bows and arrows for me when I was a child. We used to spend our family holidays in Austria climbing mountains and hiking. I would always carry a knife with me. I'm not mainly a collector, but a user of good and useful tools.
As a father of 4 children and a part-time student beside my job, there is not much free time left. I love to be in the woods when I have the chance. As mentioned I started working with leather and really like it, I want to improve my skills in the near future.
Favorite EDC Tool:
If I had only to choose only one item it would be the Brasswerx Custom SAK. It is small enough to fit in every pocket and has great tools for my regular travels.
