Welcome to the Urban EDC Showcase! Each week, we feature one member of the EDC community and the gear they rely on every day. Want to be featured? Submit your gear photo.
From Texas, we chat with Melanie (@bookish_pinay) who has a simple but incredibly effective everyday carry. A part-time range safety officer and certified firearm instructor, Melanie knows her way around tools. Read on to find out all about her EDC and how she deploys it on a daily basis.
Featured Tools:
- Glock 17 Gen 5 w/ Streamlight TLR-1 HL
The Glock 17 is a full-size semi-automatic pistol. I chose it because it checks off all the boxes for me; it’s a reliable, accurate, and easy-to-use firearm.
I use it mainly for home defense as it is fairly hard to conceal and I carry it with me when I go to the range on Saturdays, where I work as a part-time range safety officer.
Firearm proficiency, just like many skills, is a perishable skill so whenever it gets slow at the range , I typically put a few rounds through it so I can practice and train.
- Urban EDC Supply Nessie + coin
The Nessie was a knife I got to try out thanks to the affiliate program. It is by far one of the most ergonomic knives I’ve ever held and I love the unique blade shape.
Background:
I first got into the EDC lifestyle following an attempted burglary back in 2011. The experience taught me a lot about being my own first responder and making sure I have the tools I need to be safe, prepared, and self-reliant.
In my free time, I like to read (my annual reading goal is 50 books), explore the outdoors (hiking/camping), work out (I competed in my first powerlifting meet in 2019), and spend time with family and friends.
Favorite EDC Tool:
My favorite EDC tool is the Protech knives SBR. The SBR is the perfect size for me. Women’s clothing can be very limiting but the SBR can easily fit in my pocket.
The blade shape, ergonomics, and silky smooth automatic deployment are also some great features of the SBR. It was gifted to me by a friend in the community, whom I met at Blade Show Texas earlier this year.
As a woman, it has been hard for me to find “my people” so it’s been wonderful connecting with others who share my passion for EDC.
What's On Your Gear Radar:
I’m in the market for a solid multi tool that I can use for the various tasks I have when at the range. I could also really use a good flashlight that’s a little brighter than what I currently have.
