This week, we talk to Jamie from Phoenix who is a woodworking craftsman. Jamie suffers from epilepsy, but it doesn’t stop him the slightest from embracing his passion for the outdoors and living life to the absolute fullest. He also enjoys throwing tomahawks and knives in his free time, so this is a man you definitely do not want to cross. Read on for the full story of Jamie’s kickass daily carry!

- Knife: DPx HEST
The knife that is my favorite is a DPx HEST/F 2.0 Olive. The DPx HEST is a D2 German steel folder with a U.S. made titanium alloy frame. LionSteel made in Italy. It's 7.63" open length, 4.93" closed and has a fast open feature built into the blade. It’s paired with an olive paracord lanyard with a Mr. Skull black oxidized bead.
- Flashlight: ThruNite
The ThruNite penlight helps a lot when I get up from a seizure at night. It’s hard to see and I need light so this is perfect with its 130 lumens and useful low, medium, and high modes. It runs off two AA batteries so it’s convenient and easily replaceable.
- Slingshot: BRNLY SlingPop
I came about choosing the BRNLY SlingPop because I wanted something that takes me back to my youth. I also wanted something to keep the rattlesnakes away. So this is both nostalgic as well as functional. I love having it because it takes me right back.
- Watch: Timex Expedition
My trusty Timex has definitely taken a lickin’ and has kept on tickin’. I use the alarm feature every single day. Thanks to it, I don't miss out on anything.
- Keychain Knife: Spyderco Grasshopper
The little knife is a Spyderco Grasshopper which fits perfectly on my keychain. I use it for boxes and everyday surprises.
- Writing Materials: Sheaffer + Rite in the Rain
The pen is a Sheaffer; I use it every day with my Rite in the Rain notebook. With my disability, a good pen and notebook is a must.
- Lighter: Vintage
The lighter was in a bunch of stuff my grandfather left to me. I never found a name on it but I don't think it's that old though.
- Bottle Opener: Dirty Egg
Last but not least, the Dirty Egg Bottle Opener which also doubles as an impact tool. It definitely packs a punch. I’ve never had to use it but I feel sorry for the person on the receiving end.
Background:
My name is Jamie Rowe, I'm 39 and I live in Phoenix, Arizona. I am disabled with epilepsy. My hobbies include throwing tomahawks and knives, camping and hiking.
I got into EDC through my stepdad who was a Navy Seal. He taught me the importance of carrying a pocket knife and flashlight. So from my youth, I've always collected the two.
From there, my interest kind of grew with each passing year. After epilepsy started, I made sure I always have a knife and light in my pocket, ready to go. The knife is for protection and any other job that calls for it on a day to day basis.
Favorite EDC Tool:
I love the DPx HEST with the fast open feature built into the blade. When you pull it out of the pocket the right way it opens faster than an automatic knife. It also works for a bottle opener. It's a well-built knife and I know I can rely on it.
