From down south, we chat with Brad (@desk_whiskey) who works as a dental technician. A proud father of 2 beautiful girls, Brad grew up on the lake and now makes it a point to bring his girls out to the woods to hike and explore. Read on now for the full rig rundown of Brad’s simple, fuss-free yet amazingly well-chosen and functional everyday carry.
Featured Tools:
- Knife 01: Spyderco SpydieChef
I stumbled across this knife by accident one day after my wife mentioned that she wanted a kitchen knife that wouldn’t rust. I decided to give it a try because of the interesting blade shape and steel. It doesn’t have the smoothest action, but it is one of, if not the best slicers that I own. I use it mostly for food prep, but as an EDC blade it sees all sorts of tasks and does just fine!
- Knife 02: Benchmade Proper
I like to carry a smaller slip-joint knife as a secondary blade in case I need to use it in public or let someone borrow my knife and would rather not get the strange looks you tend to get when whipping out a “tactical” folder. I had been seeing them on IG for a while and I’m a sucker for micarta so it was a no-brainer. The S30V blade steel it has doesn’t hurt either.
- Flashlight: Prometheus Beta-QR V2
This is another one I had seen on IG for a while. I carried several different AAA flashlights for a while, and there were things I liked and disliked about all of them. The Prometheus hits the sweet spot! I really like the quick disconnect system, size, and the warm glow of the light that is different than most of the LED lights that you get today. This is probably one of the most used things that I carry daily.
Background:
I’ve always been an outdoorsy person. I grew up on the lake, hunting, camping and playing sports so staying active is a big part of my life. Since having 2 young children, we haven’t been camping as much as we used to, but we make it a point to get out in the woods and hike as much as possible.
I would say that I have always been into EDC; I just didn’t know it had a name. I started carrying a knife at very young age because it just seemed like something most people usually had on them. It wasn’t until the last few years that I started carrying higher end stuff after receiving a Spyderco PM2 as a gift.
Favorite EDC Tool:
If I had to pick one of the items in the photo, it would have to be the SpydieChef. I just love the overall design and the way the titanium scales pick up scratches and shows wear. The fact that it’s nearly rust proof is a huge plus!
Next On Your Gear Radar:
For me, right now, my grail knife is a CRK Sebenza. I’m going to try to make that happen within the next couple of months. Trying to decide which one I want is the real problem.
I have the copper and brass Prometheus’s. Lights, very nice lights. Have been eyeballing the Spydie chef ever since Nick Shabazz and Advanced Knife Bro both spoke highly of it!!! Like your carry stuff….
